| The common DayLilly | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Another easy care, good-looking perennial that grows well in our area as well as most others is the daylily or Hemerocallis. A member of the lily family as the name suggests, it prefers a fairly rich, moist, well-drained soil in the sunshine. The best thing about it is its high tolerance for less than optimal conditions. They don't mind a bit of shade; they don't mind fairly poor soil, either clay-like or sandy so they fit in just about anywhere. They remain neat and clean with no pests. The bloom time is about 2 to 3 weeks generally but with thoughtful selection, the season can be extended to reach from spring through early fall using different varieties. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Orange Rose... | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Not even Lumiere, the famous candelabra from "Beauty and the Beast", could hold a candle to the beauty of Candelabra, grandiflora winner. Set against a torchiere of dark green, glossy foliage, the coral and orange flowers flicker brightly. The lightly-scented grandiflora lights the garden with its 4-inch flowers with 25 petals. Candelabra grows to a height of 4-feet -- an upright, well-balanced plant with its colorful flowers present in large clusters. The plant is disease-resistant which translates to easy care for the gardener. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
